As the summer season approaches, the City of Charleston Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting lifeguards to help ensure a safe and enjoyable environment at the City’s pools. In partnership with Legendary Lifeguards, eligible applicants can receive free lifeguard certification as part of the City’s effort to recruit and train the next generation of lifeguards. 
Street sweeping on Charleston’s East End will resume April 1, marking the first season with the updated parking schedule approved by City Council in April 2025.
Charleston City Council approved a $113.6M Fiscal Year 2027 budget this evening, advancing a financial plan that continues the City’s focus on long-term stability, investments in employees, and improvements to infrastructure and neighborhoods—without increasing taxes or fees.

The City of Charleston Office of Public Art is accepting submissions from Kanawha County students, grades K-12, for the Youth Arts 2026 City of Charleston Juried Exhibition. Artwork will be on display from March 30 – April 2 in the Clendenin Lobby of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, with a reception and awards ceremony taking place on April 2 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Theater. Artists whose entries are accepted will be notified before the exhibit opening.
