MAYOR GOODWIN SHARES STATEMENT ON PASSING OF FORMER CHARLESTON CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ROBERT SHEETS

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin shared the following statement on the passing of former Council Member Robert Sheets who served three terms from 2007 to 2022.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Charleston City Council Member Robert Sheets, an extraordinary individual whose contributions to the LGBTQ+ community cannot be overstated. Through his fearless leadership, Council Member Sheets has left an indelible mark on our community — particularly his work as a member of Charleston City Council, his role as founder of the annual Pride Picnic, his service as president of the Prime Timers, and his continued advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. As we honor his memory and legacy, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring Charleston continues to be a welcome and inclusive community for all, and we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all who knew and loved him.”
