MAYOR GOODWIN ANNOUNCED $60,000 DONATION FROM HUNTINGTON BANK

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin announced a $60,000 donation today that will provide equipment, maintenance and updated programming for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. The check for $60,000 was presented by Chad Prather, Regional President for Huntington Bank, during the grand opening of their new offices located in Laidley Tower.

“We would like to thank Chad Prather and the team at Huntington Bank for investing in our community and our youth,” Mayor Goodwin said. “This will help to further our vision to produce more activities throughout our city and create a more vibrant Charleston.”

“At Huntington, our purpose is make lives better and we are excited that we can contribute to these efforts through our partnership with the City of Charleston through the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation to benefit the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. Together we’re making our city stronger,” said Chad Prather, president of Huntington Bank in West Virginia. “Providing access to safe places to play translates into success in the classroom. That’s important because these kids are the leaders of tomorrow and we want to do our part to support their future success.”

Planned upgrades include two basketball courts, eight outdoor bleachers, team benches, a futsal area and provide maintenance including repaving the walking path, additional electrical outlets and fence painting. The city will also continue working with Huntington Bank to establish programming for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.

The charitable donation was received through the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation for The City of Charleston to facilitate this project.
