Mayor’s Office in coordination with Charleston Police Department leads multi-jurisdictional Homeless Task Force meeting

The Mayor’s Office, in coordination with the Charleston Police Department, led a multi-jurisdictional homeless task force meeting at the West Virginia State Police Academy this morning. The meeting, the first of several planned, served to identify issues, current resources, how data is collected, and what can be done in tandem between jurisdictions moving forward on the topic of homelessness.

“Homelessness is an issue that effects every jurisdiction to a varying degree,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “This task force, in addition to ongoing efforts, will bring officers and organizations together to develop thoughtful new solutions to this growing problem in our region.”

“Law enforcement officers want to build partnerships within our neighborhoods, to help develop a regional approach, to a problem affecting all of our communities,” said Sgt. J. C. Webb of the Charleston Police Department.

Law enforcement officers from the Charleston Police Department, Nitro Police Department, Dunbar Police Department, South Charleston Police Department, Marmet Police Department, Boone County Police Department, West Virginia State Police and Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were present for today’s meeting. The Belle Police Department and St. Alban’s Police Department have also agreed to take part in future meetings.
