Urban Deer Hunt Applications Open August 3rd

The City of Charleston’s Urban Deer Hunt season will be open from September 5th through December 31st and January 11th through January 31st. Hunting applications will be available Monday, August 3rd and will be accepted by mail only. Applications received after Friday, August 28th are not guaranteed to be processed before the Saturday, September 5th start date.

Please note, the Urban Deer Hunt will take place in November and December only in Cato Park. 

“The annual Urban Deer Hunt helps control the deer population in our City,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We caution everyone to hunt safely and to follow the rules and regulations set by the City and State.”

 

All applications and documentation requirements can be found at charlestonwv.gov/charleston-life/urban-deer-hunt. Bow and cross bow hunting are permitted. Cross bow hunting is only permitted with a valid Class Y permit, which can be downloaded from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resource website.

 

Application cost is $10 per hunter and copies of all proper documentation is required for applications to be processed. Paperwork and payments should be mailed to Melissa Taylor, City of Charleston, P.O. Box 2749, Charleston, WV 25330 with “Urban Deer Hunt” on the envelope.
