Refuse Department’s spring cleanup collection starts Mondays in May Regular Tuesday customers come first – this coming Monday
As residents of Charleston turn their attention to spring cleaning, the City of Charleston’s Refuse Department is preparing for its special collection runs on Mondays in May and early June. With a few notable exceptions, city crews will collect just about any refuse placed on the curb in conjunction with spring cleaning by residents throughout the city.
Collection crews will not pick up batteries, toxic substances or paint cans that have not be properly dried, but they will collect just about everything else people place on the curb at the appropriate time.
Residents whose regular refuse collection is on Tuesdays will be the first on the special cleanup collection schedule on Monday, May 7. So people along those routes might want to take advantage of this weekend to clean house. Wednesday customers are scheduled for the special collection on Monday, May 14. Thursday customers are set for Monday, May 21, and, after skipping Memorial Day, the special collection will conclude on Monday, June 4 for residents whose garbage is collected on Fridays.
The special cleanup collection applies only to regular customers of the city’s refuse department, and the special pickup does not affect the regular refuse collection, which will continue as usual Tuesdays through Fridays.
People with used paint cans must treat the cans with kitty litter, sand or another substance that will completely dry any unused paint. Residents with questions about the special Spring Cleanup can call the city’s Refuse Department at (304) 348-6832.
