Danita Nellhaus Appointed to Kanawha-Charleston Health Department Board of Directors

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, with approval from Charleston City Council, has named Danita Nellhaus to the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department Board of Directors. Nellhaus has been a Kanawha County School nurse for sixteen years. During this time, she has served on the Kanawha County Wellness Team which helps develop nutritional and physical activity standards for county schools.

 

“Danita Nellhaus has worked with thousands of students in her time as a school nurse and can bring valuable insight and best practices in working with our young people to keep them healthy and safe,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “I believe she will bring unique skillsets to the Board of Directors and will help guide the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department in working with our youth during this pandemic.”

 

“I am thrilled to serve on the Board of Directors for the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and hope to bring my knowledge of the healthcare field and experience working with young people to improve current services,” said Danita Nellhaus. 

 

Nellhaus is a member of the West Virginia Association of School Nurses, where she has served as both President and Vice President. She is also a member of the National Association of School Nurses.

 

Danita and her family have lived in Charleston for 21 years. Her husband Kurt is an Intensivist in the Medical and Neuro ICUs at CAMC General Hospital.  Daughter Emma is a 4th year Medical Student at Marshall University and was wed in her family’s back yard in May.  Emma’s husband, Paul Blankenship, is a fourth year PharmD student at Marshall. Her daughter Sophie will graduate from Marshall in December 2021 with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. 

 

In her spare time, Nellhaus volunteered pre-pandemic with Manna Meal and Covenant House and is a member of B’nai Jacob Synagogue and the Woman’s Kanawha Literary Club.
