Parkmobile, LLC Partners with the City of Charleston to Offer Mobile Parking App
Parkmobile, LLC and the City of Charleston announced today the launch of the Parkmobile app, which allows customers to use their mobile devices to pay for parking meters in certain parts of the city.
To use Parkmobile, customers can register for free through the app for iPhone, Android or online at parkmobile.com. After setting up their account, customers can immediately begin using the system with their registered mobile device. App users may also choose to receive a reminder prior to the expiration of their parking session, and if the maximum parking time has not been reached, parkers can even extend their time from the app. Enforcement officers will be able to see that a motorist has paid with Parkmobile using a wireless handheld device and the user’s license plate number. Additionally, multiple payment methods are offered through the app, including Masterpass, PayPal, Visa Checkout, Chase Pay, Parkmobile Wallet, and Apple Pay.
“Our mission is to facilitate and promote alternative transportation options for our parking customers, and Parkmobile will modernize our traditional parking standards by providing an efficient payment option to our customers,” said Mary Dickerson, Director of the City of Charleston’s Traffic Parking and Transportation Department. “After completing a major study of parking within Charleston, especially in and around downtown, we are pleased to enter into this partnership with Parkmobile and believe this is a positive step toward upgrading some of our parking operations within the city.”
As the first phase of introducing new parking options within Charleston, the new Parkmobile app will be introduced for use on nearly 600 meters in areas on the fringe of the central business district. Those meters will feature a new Parkmobile sticker on them that explains the new option. Most of the parking meters in the heavily used downtown area will be part of a second phase of parking upgrades in the city later this year.
The City has added an interactive map and a Parkmobile instructional video on our website (Click Here).
