LIVE ON THE LEVEE TO HOST BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT ON AUGUST 9

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Live on the Levee, presented by Moses Auto Group and hosted by the City of Charleston—will close out the 2024 concert series with Back to School Night on Friday, August 9 starting at 6:30 p.m.  Featuring live music by special guests Emmalea Deal & The Hot Mess at 6:30 p.m. followed by headliner Golden, Back to School Night will include kid’s activities, and school supply giveaways – including Tools for School hosted by United Way of Central West Virginia and other local partners. Those unable to attend Back to School Night on August 9, will have opportunities to pick up school supplies and celebrate the new school year at events hosted by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.  

“Back to School Night is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, and make sure our young people are equipped with the necessary school essentials,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We look forward to coming together as a community to support our students and help make the start to their school year truly outstanding.”

“Tools for School is more than just a collection of supplies; it's a community effort to ensure every child starts the school year on equal footing, with the confidence and resources they need to succeed,” said Kerri Cooper, Community Impact Director of United Way of Central West Virginia.  “It's incredible to see how our community comes together to support our students and their education.”

School supplies for the Tools for School drive can be dropped off at the United Way of Central West Virginia (One United Way Square Charleston, WV 25301) Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. now through August 8. Monetary donations can be made by texting TOOL to 41444.

“The Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to be part of Back to School Night at Live on the Levee and to provide additional opportunities at our Community Centers for kids to gather school supplies and enjoy some fun activities,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Rashaun Poore. “It is important that every child start the school year prepared and with a sense of excitement!”
