CITY OFFICES CLOSED FOR THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY

City of Charleston offices will be closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Essential personnel including police and fire will report as scheduled. There will be no changes to the residential or commercial refuse collection schedule.

“Our city teams have been working around the clock dealing with the aftermath of the tornado that hit Charleston last week. Our employees will now have this Friday off to rest and spend time with their families,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin.

Events happening this weekend

The City of Charleston will host a Fourth of July Celebration on July 4. At 8:00 p.m., the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s brass and percussion ensemble will perform from the Schoenbaum Stage at Haddad Riverfront Park. Fireworks will begin during the last song of the concert at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Live on the Levee will take place as scheduled for Veteran’s Night on Friday, July 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. John Inghram presents A Tribute to Tom Petty featuring William Matheny, The Sea The Sea and more. Aaron Fisher and Ghost Fleet will open the show.

City pools at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, Kanawha City Community Center and Cato Park will be open from noon to 6:00 p.m. over the holiday weekend.

Summer camp will continue at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center on Friday as scheduled.
