Charleston City Council approves “Citizen Appreciation Parking”
In tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting, Charleston City Council approved “Citizen Appreciation Parking.” This action by council waved hourly parking fees at all metered on-street parking spaces. Free parking will take place November 30, December 7, December 14, December 21, December 28 and January 4.
“We want to incentivize folks to shop local this holiday season,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We have expanded free parking this year from four Saturdays to six Saturdays. By providing free Saturday parking at our meters city-wide, we hope to help drive traffic to our local retailers and restaurants.”
During the meeting City Council also passed a resolution to enter into an agreement with SearchWide Global to conduct a nationwide search for a new General Manager for the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center/Municipal Auditorium. The Personnel Committee of the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center/Municipal Auditorium will work with SearchWide Global to make employment recommendations to the Mayor. An employment contract will be developed by the Board of Directors with approval of Charleston City Council. The search is estimated to take 10 – 12 weeks.
“We thank John Robertson for his leadership and years of service,” said Carrie Fenwick, President of the Board of Directors for the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center/Municipal Auditorium. “We look forward to the Coliseum & Convention Center’s next chapter in our beautiful renovated facility.”
Other action items included authorization to buy fifteen 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicles for the Charleston Police Department and a resolution to enter into one or more agreements for the purchase of E-10 gasoline and diesel fuel.
