CITY OF CHARLESTON TO HOST PARK(ING) DAY THIS FRIDAY

The City of Charleston will host the second annual PARK(ing) Day on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. A special preview will take place during ArtWalk on Thursday, September 19 from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. PARK(ing) Day is an event that encourages artists, designers and urbanists to rethink how we use public spaces. While most outdoor spaces in an urban area are dedicated to vehicle parking, PARK(ing) Day is a time to reconsider how those spaces could be used.

The metered parking spaces on Hale Street between Virginia Street and Quarrier Street will become spaces for creative experimentation. Spaces will be filled with music, art, interactive activities and a miniature greenspace. A food truck and outdoor seating will also be available for those that would like to spend their lunch taking part in PARK(ing) Day.

Organizations that will take part in PARK(ing) Day include: Aronfield Agency, Charleston Area Alliance, Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau, City of Charleston Office of Public Art, Parking & Planning Department, Eggs Will Roll, FestivALL, Mountaineer Montessori School, Spa Bliss and WTSQ: The Status Quo.
