Charleston Fire Department Graduates New Class of Firefighters

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin & Charleston Fire Chief Shawn Wanner administered the firefighter’s oath to eleven recent CFD recruits today at their graduation ceremony. The ceremony took place at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

 

“We are thrilled to add eleven new firefighters to the Charleston Fire Department,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “Charleston firefighters are the best of the best and we look forward to seeing these new folks protect our City and her people.”

 

Graduates include James Lester, Jered Lanham, Trevor Quarles, Cruize Carico, Stony Totten, Nathan Thomas, Jackson Vanscoy, Lequan Lee, Marshall Walker, Quaide McNabb and Cole McCourt.  

 

“We have seen the continued dedication these individuals have shown throughout their training,” said Chief Shawn Wanner. “We are excited to add them to our ranks and they are excited to help keep the citizens and visitors of Charleston safe.”

 

Recruits began their rigorous training on June 22, 2021. Courses included becoming Emergency Medical Technicians, going through Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 classes, safety and survival class, Rapid Intervention Team training, hazardous materials awareness and operations classes, and core rescue courses.

 

The recruits will be placed on one of three shifts (A, B, or C) beginning October 10, 2021.
