MAYOR GOODWIN AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO ENCOURAGE INCLUSIVITY & CIVILITY IN THE CITY OF CHARLESTON THROUGH PROCLAMATIONS

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, will join City Council members, to issue two proclamations during tonight’s City Council meeting. The proclamations highlight the need for listening, fairness, inclusivity and mutual respect even in times of discourse and debate.

“Now more than ever, we must show that Charleston is a place where residents and visitors feel welcome and safe. But before that, we as leaders, must exercise civility and work together across ideological and political lines. More simply put, treat others the way you want to be treated,” said Mayor Goodwin. “We cannot expect to cultivate thriving, vibrant cities, if we are not willing to sit at the same table as those with dissimilar views and treat each other with respect.”

“In a time of division in our country and community it is important that folks understand the City of Charleston is a safe and welcoming place for all of our residents, businesses, and visitors,” said Councilwoman Becky Ceperley.
