City Council Approves Citizen Appreciation Parking
(Charleston, W. Va.) – During Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting, Charleston City Council approved Citizen Appreciation Parking. This waives hourly parking fees at all metered on-street parking spaces on November 28, December 5, December 12, December 19, December 26, and January 2, 2027.
“From holiday shopping and dining to seasonal events, there's a lot happening in Charleston this time of year,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “Citizen Appreciation Parking is one way we can make it easier for people to get out, enjoy the season, and support our local businesses.”
“Offering free on-street parking on Saturdays during the holiday season makes it a little easier for residents and visitors to shop, dine, and enjoy local events,” said Council Member Mary Beth Hoover, Chairperson for Planning/Streets and Traffic Committee. “It's a simple way to support our businesses during one of their busiest times of the year.”
In addition to Citizen Appreciation Parking days, parking is free in City-owned parking garages on the following days (except during special event parking):
- All day on Saturdays and Sundays
- From 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays
- On City-observed holidays
