SUMMER SPLASH SEASON BEGINS SATURDAY WITH CITY POOLS & SPLASHPADS
(Charleston, W. Va.) – The City of Charleston Parks and Recreation Department announced the opening of select pool and splashpad facilities for the 2026 summer season beginning Saturday, May 23, 2026. Admission to City pools and splashpads is free.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and the North Charleston Community Center pools will open alongside splashpads located at Magic Island and East End Community Park.
To help expand access during Memorial Day weekend, transportation will be available for youth participants traveling from the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Pool and from the Kanawha City Community Center to the North Charleston Community Center Pool during Memorial Day weekend.
“We are excited to welcome families back for another summer season,” said Dax Miller, Director of the City of Charleston Parks and Recreation Department. “Our pools and splashpads give kids and families a chance to cool off, stay active, and enjoy time together throughout the summer months.”
City pools also provide seasonal employment opportunities for local youth and young adults, including lifeguards, pool managers, and concession staff.
POOL HOURS AND INFORMATION
Pool schedules may be adjusted due to weather conditions.
Sunday | 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Monday | Closed for maintenance, except Memorial Day (May 25)
Tuesday – Saturday | Noon – 6 p.m.
Pool guests are welcome to bring chairs and coolers. Coolers are subject to search. Alcohol and glass containers are not permitted. All City of Charleston Parks and Recreation facilities are non-smoking facilities. Cigarettes and tobacco products are not allowed in pool areas.
YOUTH TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
Transportation will be available May 23–25, 2026 for youth participants traveling from:
- Roosevelt Neighborhood Center to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Pool
- Depart: 11:30 a.m. | Return: approximately 4:30 p.m.
- Kanawha City Community Center to the North Charleston Community Center Pool
- Depart: 12:30 p.m. | Return: approximately 5:30 p.m.
Parents/guardians must contact the respective community centers in advance and complete a transportation permission slip prior to participation. Seating may be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additional pool facilities remain under maintenance and preparation work. Updates regarding the Kanawha City and Cato Park pools will be announced as information becomes available.
