Mayor Goodwin Breaks Ground on Beatrice Street Park

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, alongside members of Charleston City Council, members of the City’s Parks & Recreation Department and representatives from Tempo Construction, broke ground on the Beatrice Street Park located on Charleston’s West Side today. This park, located at the corner of Washington Street West and Beatrice Street, will house two basketball courts, a playground and picnic tables with games. There will also be dedicated parking for the park.

“In talking with members of the community, including our youth, folks stressed the importance of a walkable park on our West Side flats,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “This location is accessible by walking, biking, car and bus, giving a great amount of people access.”

This land, owned by the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority, is being leased by the City of Charleston until 2046.

“This park will be a great addition to the West Side and the City of Charleston,” said Councilman Larry Moore. “This is another way to give children and families more opportunities to get outside together.”

Currently, the park is expected to open by the end of the year.
