Adopt-a-Street Program Applications Now Available

Applications for the City of Charleston’s Adopt-a-Street program are now available. This program focuses on litter pickup on streets and alleyways that are maintained by the City. Individuals, families, churches, businesses, schools, civic organizations, government agencies, fraternities, sororities, and communities may adopt a street.

“The first impression of Charleston for potential businesses and residents is monumental in convincing folks to come here. Beautification efforts and clean neighborhoods is a huge part of that impression,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “This program gives community members a way to give back to their neighborhood by volunteering their time.”

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have a hand in the creation of a program that will encourage the citizens of Charleston to get outside and help keep the City clean. To foster that encouragement, I'm excited to be the first Adopter by adopting Daverton Road in my Ward,” said Charleston City Councilman Joe Jenkins. “I hope others will follow suit and very much appreciate the support of the entire City administration in getting the program off the ground."

“While we strive to have yearly City-wide cleanups, the Adopt-a-Street program will provide year-round clean up efforts in every part of our Capital City,” said Brent Webster, Director of Public Works.

To participate in the program, participants must be at least 12 years old. The City will furnish trash bags, safety signs, gloves, safety vests and litter pickers. Once clean ups are completed, City crews will pick up and dispose of all bagged trash. After completing two clean ups, the name of the adopter will be posted on a sign in the designated area.
