Overnight Warming Center to Open at Salvation Army

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin announced city emergency services will collaborate with the United Way of Central West Virginia and Kanawha Valley Collective to provide staffing and support for warming centers on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25.

The warming centers—a collaboration between the City of Charleston, service providers and community volunteers—will be open at the Salvation Army, 301 Tennessee Avenue. The warming centers will be open from 9 p.m. Thursday evening to 7 a.m. Friday morning and 9 p.m. Friday evening to 7 a.m. Saturday morning to accommodate those in need of shelter from the cold. 

Social distancing guidelines will be in place at the warming center and masks will be required.

Additional services and support for the warming center are being provided by the Salvation Army, Prestera Center, Covenant House WV, YWCA/Sojourners Shelter, Roark Sullivan Lifeway Center, Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority and other community organizations.
