City and County Donate Cloth Masks to Local Non-Profits

The City of Charleston and Kanawha County Commission are providing cloth face coverings to local non-profits that do outreach work throughout Kanawha County. Organizations like the Kanawha Valley Collective, United Way of Central West Virginia and WV Health Right will give these masks to those in the unhoused community.

“With the steady rise in COVID cases that we are seeing throughout the City, County and State, we felt it was important to make sure that masks are readily available to those experiencing homelessness,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “The folks that are boots-on-the-ground for our social service providers will make sure these masks get to those that need them most.”

Commission President Kent Carper added, “The temperatures are falling, but our COVID-19 cases are at an all-time high. The Kanawha County Commission and the City of Charleston prepared a secure area to store supplies months ago. Our plan is and always has been to keep all our citizens safe. We are thankful for the work of our local non-profits and are honored to partner with them.”

“Our local service providers have continued to serve one of our most vulnerable communities during COVID-19,” said Commissioner Ben Salango. “Early on in the pandemic, we knew securing adequate supplies would be critical. We could not get the necessary supplies into the hands of all our citizens without our brave first responders, that includes our service providers.”

Approximately 2,000 masks were given to these organizations for distribution in the coming weeks.
