MAYOR GOODWIN ANNOUNCES CHARLESTON TO HOST WVSSAC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS FROM 2019 TO 2021

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin announced today Charleston will host the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission Volleyball Championships (WVSSAC) from 2019-2021 as the result of the collaborative efforts of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Historically, the WVSSAC Volleyball Championships have resulted in $850,000 in economic impact and approximately 600 room bookings annually.

“Sports tourism—such as the WVSSAC Volleyball Championships—continues to be a priority as the return on investment is substantial,” Mayor Goodwin said.  “We are excited to see the championships return to Charleston and we look forward to hosting visitors from across our state to experience all our Capital City has to offer for years to come.”

“The Charleston CVB places a great deal of importance on our relationship with the WVSSAC and the Championships that we host here,” said Tim Brady, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Charleston CVB. “The economic impact of these events is critical to our city.  Competitive sports continues to be our number one market in the City of Charleston.  This winning bid is a testament to the relationship between the CVB and the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center and I feel it’s just the beginning of great things to come as we continue to sell this beautiful facility to a regional and national audience.”

This year’s WVSSAC Volleyball Championships will be held at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center November 15 & 16.
