'Emma's Place' Dog Park to Open
Emma’s Place, the dog park named in honor of fallen Charleston Police Patrolman Cassie Johnson chocolate lab Emma, will be dedicated on Wednesday, June 16 at 2:30 p.m. The park is located in Cato Park (200 Baker Lane) near the soccer fields and features several pieces of play equipment as well as a gazebo and water station. Edgewood Summit is donating a bench in honor of Ptlm. Johnson’s memory.
“Ptlm. Cassie Johnson was a lover of animals – especially her Emma. This is the perfect way to keep her memory alive and honor one of the things she loved most in this world,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We have been working with Cassie’s family for the past several months to make sure this is a park she would love.”
A dedication will take place on June 16 at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and bring their furry friends. Folks can park near Cato pool.
The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association will be on-site with animals that can be adopted. The Petco Foundation, Kong, Greater Good Charities, Barkbox, Rock City Cake Company, Cassie’s Critter Comforts Foundation and Nylabone have also provided donations to be given away during the event.
